12 other ways to store it.
We opened each library’s README, docs and npm record, wrote down what it states about each store, and put that beside Strata Storage. Where a page doesn’t state something, the cell says so. For a narrower job several of these are the better pick, and each page tells you when.

Who states what.
- localForage: An async key-value store for browsers that writes to IndexedDB or WebSQL and falls back to localStorage, with a localStorage-shaped API.
- idb-keyval: A very small promise-based key-value store on top of IndexedDB, with get, set, del and a few batch helpers.
- Dexie.js: A wrapper library for IndexedDB with a schema, queries and bulk operations, plus an optional paid sync service called Dexie Cloud.
- store2: A small wrapper over localStorage and sessionStorage that adds JSON handling, namespaces and a page-lifetime area.
- @capacitor/preferences: The official Capacitor plugin for a small string key-value store, backed by UserDefaults on iOS, SharedPreferences on Android and localStorage on the web.
- capacitor-secure-storage-plugin: A community Capacitor plugin for storing string secrets in the iOS Keychain and Android Keystore-backed SharedPreferences.
- @aparajita/capacitor-secure-storage: A Capacitor 8 plugin for secure key-value storage of JSON data in the iOS Keychain (with optional iCloud Keychain sync) and AES-GCM encrypted SharedPreferences on Android.
- @capacitor-community/sqlite: A community Capacitor plugin for native and Electron SQLite databases, with SQLCipher encryption on native and a web layer through jeep-sqlite.
- @ionic/storage: Ionic's key-value storage helper built on localForage: IndexedDB and localStorage out of the box, SQLite through an extra driver, encryption through Ionic Secure Storage.
- idb: A small library that mirrors the IndexedDB API with promises and usability fixes, for modern browsers.
- unstorage: A universal key-value layer from UnJS with mountable drivers for memory, filesystem, browser storage, Capacitor Preferences, databases and cloud object stores.
- js-cookie: A small client-side JavaScript API for reading, writing and deleting cookies with their attributes.
Their pages, not our memory.
Stores
Taken from each library’s README or docs. Versions, licences and dependency lists come from the npm registry.
Bundle size
Bundlephobia’s number for the version named. For a Capacitor plugin that’s the JavaScript side only; native code isn’t counted.
Downloads
npm’s own weekly count, with the dates it covers. Ours is the smallest number here. It says how many installs happened, not which library fits your app.
Prices
None of these npm packages states a price on the pages we checked, so there’s no price table. Where one points at a separate commercial product, its page says we didn’t price it.
Our column
Only what’s in the published package’s source. Native reads still need a check on a device, whichever library you pick.
